July 2025 marks the ten-year anniversary of WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA).
As the operator of Western Australia’s three Primary Health Networks (PHNs), WAPHA has a responsibility to improve access to affordable, quality health care for people and communities most at risk of poor health outcomes.
It’s a mission that’s as challenging as it is rewarding, and WAPHA’s path to becoming one of the most forward-thinking and innovative PHN operators in Australia has been powered by the organisation’s people and our commitment to collaboration.
“Our one health system approach working alongside GPs, allied health professionals, contracted service providers, and state health, has led to improvements in health outcomes for those most at risk,” WAPHA CEO Bernie Kenny said.
“Our people live the values and embody the mission of this organisation every day, and our partnerships enable us to connect care, contract services, and turn our mission into measurable impact.”
The past ten years have seen WAPHA grow and evolve, in line with the Australian Government’s increasing mandate for PHNs, none of which would have been possible without the dedication of a passionate team.
Board Chair, Dr Richard Choong agreed that WAPHA’s success is defined by its people.
“WAPHA is always striving to support our under-served communities, and it takes a committed team to not just deliver on that goal, but to build on that impact year on year.
“We are committed to working with stakeholders across the health sector to understand their priorities, challenges and, most importantly, seek out opportunities to improve health outcomes,” Dr Choong said.
“Primary health care is the linchpin of an effective health system, and our work is focused on translating the government’s ambitious reform agenda into tangible change,” Ms Kenny said. She sees a huge future for the organisation, particularly given the Australian Government’s clear ambition for primary health care reform.
“I will maintain my focus on innovation, collaboration and coordination with key health agencies while supporting our people every step of the way,” she said.
“I look forward to realising our ambitions for WAPHA’s ongoing impact as we continue to serve the diverse populations of WA and work with our stakeholders to deliver better health, together.”
