WAPHA gets Rainbow Tick of approval

WA Primary Health Alliance has officially been approved for Rainbow Tick accreditation.

We are proud of this achievement as it  represents the value we place on supporting, respecting and celebrating the individual differences of our staff and the broader WA community.

Our accreditation journey commenced in 2018, where we began working towards meeting six national standards of LGBTI inclusive practices.

These include:

  • Organisational capability
  • Workforce development
  • Consumer participation
  • A welcoming and accessible organisation
  • Disclosure and documentation, and
  • Culturally safe and acceptable services

WA Primary Health Alliance General Manager Chris Kane said given our vision of equitable health outcomes across WA, WA Primary Health Alliance has an important leadership role to advocate for safe, inclusive and culturally appropriate services for LGBTI people.

“A disproportionate number of LGBTI people experience poorer mental health outcomes as well as discrimination, harassment and hostility in many parts of everyday life, which can impact their access to health services,” she said.

“Achieving Rainbow Tick accreditation aligns with who we are as an organisation and what we’re all about – shaping, strengthening and sustaining a health system that works for everyone.”

The Rainbow Tick is a confidence mark that signals an organisation has reached a high standard of diversity and inclusiveness, in line with the Rainbow Tick 2nd Edition Standards.

It affirms our ongoing commitment to ensuring people of diverse sexuality and/or gender have access to safe, inclusive and culturally appropriate healthcare.

Our journey doesn’t end with achieving the Rainbow Tick.

The accreditation report provides us with recommendations for improvement as we strive for excellence in diversity and inclusion.
