People living with chronic respiratory conditions across Western Australia will benefit from improved access to person-centred care through a new statewide digital-first chronic care service commissioned by WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA).
Respiratory Care WA will deliver the service from 1 October 2026, which will provide support through telehealth and other digital care options, making it easier for people to access care regardless of where they live, including in rural and remote communities but also in the Perth metropolitan area.
The service will support people living with ongoing respiratory conditions, with a model of care that includes support to transition from hospital or specialist care back to GP management, ongoing community-based support and education, and assistance for GPs to manage their care in the community setting.
The service aims to address gaps in care, strengthen connections across the health system through a multidisciplinary care model, and reduce avoidable hospital presentations.
WAPHA CEO Bernadette Kenny said the service would improve access to specialist chronic disease support while helping people remain connected to care closer to home.
“This new statewide service will make it easier for people living with chronic respiratory conditions to access coordinated care and support, no matter where they live in Western Australia.”

Respiratory Care WA CEO Rael River said the organisation is proud to launch its new Respiratory Digital Health Service, made possible through WAPHA’s support.
“This service will provide free respiratory care, education and support to people across Western Australia, helping to improve access for those living in metropolitan, regional, rural and remote communities.
“By harnessing digital technology, we’re breaking down barriers to care and advancing our advocacy for equitable respiratory health services. Together, we are creating new pathways to support, improving respiratory health outcomes and creating healthier communities across WA.”
The service is available to people with a diagnosed eligible respiratory condition, such as chronic asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
