The Australian Government funded service is designed for young people aged 12 to 25 who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health challenges and need more support than lowerintensity services alone can provide.

YFlex provides flexible support options during periods of increased need for the young person delivered at the service locations, in the home or other community setting, over the phone or via telehealth.

The focus is on early intervention, recovery and continuity of care, helping young people stay connected to education, employment, family and community life.

Delivered by a multidisciplinary team, the service has been codesigned with young people, families and local partners to ensure it meets their needs and is well integrated with the local service system.

YFlex operates in the space between primary care and specialist mental health services, and works closely with local services, including headspace, GPs, schools, child and adolescent mental health services, hospitals and community organisations.

This service is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the PHN Program, commissioned by WA Primary Health Alliance and operated by Neami National.

“We know that some young people need more intensive support at certain points, but don’t always fit neatly into existing service pathways,” Mr Cockayne said.

“YFlex provides flexible, communitybased care that responds to times of increased need, while working closely with other services to support continuity of care.

“As the operator of the Perth South PHN, WAPHA is focused on commissioning services that respond to local need and improve access to timely, coordinated mental health support for young people and their families.”

“YFlex builds on Neami’s longstanding commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people.”

“Since launching in October, YFlex Perth South has supported 160 young people, demonstrating strong demand for flexible, relationshipbased support that meets young people earlier and in ways that fit their lives.”

“Neami is proud to deliver YFlex in partnership with WA Primary Health Alliance and local services, strengthening early intervention and continuity of care for young people and families in Perth South.”
