New online training supporting conversations about weight with children and families

New free online training, available through WA Primary Health Alliance’s SHAPE website, equips health care professionals with the skills and knowledge to have respectful, person-centred and non-stigmatising conversations with children and families living with overweight or obesity.

The Conversations About Weight: Paediatric Support eLearning modules are designed for general practitioners, practice nurses and allied health practitioners and give clinicians practical strategies to start sensitive conversations, assess without stigma, and involve families in holistic, sustainable care plans.

Each of the modules is accredited for 1 hour of educational activities through RACGP CPD.

Conversations About Weight: Paediatric Support eLearning modules cover:

  • Module 1 – Ask and Approach: Practical strategies for initiating sensitive conversations and engaging families in a supportive way.
  • Module 2 – Assess Without Stigma: Guidance on conducting comprehensive assessments while reducing weight stigma.
  • Module 3 – Family-Based Approach: Tools for involving families in holistic, sustainable care plans.
