New adult mental health site opens in Northam

Northam Head to Health, evolving to Northam Medicare Mental Health Centre later this year, has opened its doors, offering free advice, support and, if needed, assessment and treatment for people with stress, anxiety and other mental health challenges.

As the lead agency, Holyoake has worked closely with the local community and health services over the last two months to ensure the new service meets their needs and is well integrated into existing health and social service networks in the Wheatbelt.

Located at 133 Fitzgerald Street East, Northam, this new site is part of a wider range of services funded by the Australian Government available to the community including the Head to Health Phone Service 1800 595 212, Head to Health sites, and Head to Health website.

In WA, Midland Head to Health opened in 2022 while sites in Armadale, Gosnells and Mirrabooka opened in 2023.

This activity has been made possible through funding provided by the Australian Government under the PHN Program.

Head to Health evolving to become Medicare Mental Health Centres

Head to Health sites are evolving to provide access to even more mental health services for the community, as they transition to become Medicare Mental Health Centres by the end of 2024.

When the transition to Medicare Mental Health Centres takes place, the centres will be able to provide access to care for people with more complex mental health needs than they do currently.

The Australian Government is providing more funding to ensure people who need it can receive the care they need from a range of mental health professionals, including psychologists and psychiatrists.
