headspace outreach services to bring mental health support closer to home for young people in Derby and Katanning

New headspace outreach services in Derby and Katanning will provide easier access to early intervention mental health support for young people in the area.

The services are designed to provide flexible, locally connected support for young people aged 12 to 25 who may otherwise find it difficult to access care.

The Derby outreach service will be operated by Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services through headspace Broome, while the Katanning outreach service will be operated by Youth Focus through headspace Albany. Both services are expected to be established by mid-2027.

As established providers of youth mental health services, headspace Albany and headspace Broome bring extensive experience supporting young people and their families. Their outreach services will help strengthen local connections to the broader headspace network.

The outreach services will complement existing health and community support by offering mental health care, work and study assistance, alcohol and other drug support, and physical and sexual health services in Derby and Katanning. The model aims to reduce barriers to seeking help and ensure young people can access support when and where they need it.

This service is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the PHN Program and is commissioned by WA Primary Health Alliance.
