Urgent care tender now open – Geraldton, Mundaring, Yanchep

A competitive tender is now open for three more Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (UCC) to be located in or near Geraldton, Mundaring and Yanchep, expected to open in the first quarter of 2026.

On behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA) is coordinating the tender processes and will support selected practices to establish and operate their clinics.

Medicare UCCs aim to expand the availability of urgent care in Western Australia and further reduce pressure on hospital emergency departments.

Accredited general practices and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services located in the three nominated areas, as well as nearby suburbs, are eligible to respond to the RFP, provided they meet the relevant criteria, by 7 October 2025.

Medicare UCCs have extended hours of operation, doctors and nurses with experience in urgent care, and offer fully bulk-billed, walk-in appointments.

Once a patient has been treated at a Medicare UCC, ongoing management and clinical care is handed over to the patient’s usual GP, who knows their health history best and provides continuity of care.

WAPHA CEO Bernie Kenny said Medicare UCCs play an important role in the health system.

“Medicare Urgent Care Clinics provide another option for people to receive treatment for non-critical urgent conditions and are helping to ease the pressure on our hospital emergency departments.

“These additional clinics mean even more Western Australians will be able to access bulk-billed, timely, urgent care in the community setting, close to home.”

Medicare UCCs must be based in existing general practices or Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services accredited to a recognised and relevant standard such as the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ Standards for general practice.

Applicants must consider their eligibility against the minimum requirements set out in the Operational Guidance, and additional requirements detailed in the Request for Proposal.

The Australian Government has committed $644.3 million to establish 50 additional Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across Australia, including six new clinics for Western Australia.

An earlier tender opportunity for clinics in or near Bateman, Ellenbrook and Mirrabooka has now closed, with those clinics expected to open before 25 December 2025.
