Tender Opportunity: Medicare Urgent Care Clinics

WA Primary Health Alliance, in conjunction with the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, is pleased to announce a competitive tender process for the establishment of three Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (UCC).

These new clinics will be located in or near Bateman, Ellenbrook and Mirrabooka, and are expected to open before 25 December 2025.

Medicare UCCs aim to expand the availability of urgent care in Western Australia and further reduce pressure on hospital emergency departments.

Accredited general practices and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services located in these areas, as well as nearby suburbs, are eligible to respond to the RFP, provided they meet the relevant criteria, by 2 September 2025.

Medicare UCCs have extended hours of operation, doctors and nurses with experience in urgent care, and offer fully bulk-billed, walk-in appointments.

Once a patient has been treated at a Medicare UCC, ongoing management and clinical care is handed over to the patient’s usual GP, if they have one.

WA Primary Health Alliance acting CEO, Rob Salvage, said, “This initiative represents a significant investment in our healthcare system, ensuring that urgent care is accessible to more Western Australians.

“We encourage eligible practices to participate in this tender process and contribute to the expansion of Medicare UCCs.”

Medicare UCCs must be based in existing general practices and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services accredited to a recognised and relevant standard such as the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ Standards for general practice.

Applicants must consider their eligibility against the minimum requirements set out in the Operational Guidance, and additional requirements detailed in the Request for Proposal.

The Australian Government has committed $644.3 million to establish 50 additional Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across Australia, including six new clinics for Western Australia. Details of the remaining three clinics will be released later this year.
