Caring for recently arrived refugees and humanitarian entrants can be a rewarding and complex part of general practice. Many have experienced war, torture, repression, prolonged family separation, poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to health care and education, affecting their social, psychological and physical wellbeing.
WAPHA, in partnership with the WA Department of Health, is presenting a six-part webinar series for GPs on caring for refugee patients in primary care. Delivered by expert presenters, from the Humanitarian Entrant Health Service including Senior Medical Advisor Dr Zoe Smythe and Dr Grace Vivian, the series covers global and local context, cultural and language considerations, trauma-informed care, comprehensive health assessments, and common conditions through case studies.
