Young people living in and around Manjimup will soon be able to access youth-friendly support services closer to home with a headspace centre expected to open by the end of 2025.
headspace Manjimup will provide the full range of headspace services including mental health, physical and sexual health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.
As the operator of WA’s three Primary Health Networks, WA Primary Health Alliance will be coordinating the tender process and supporting the successful provider to establish the centre.
Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention; Rural and Regional Health, Emma McBride, said the new Manjimup headspace will join a national network of headspace services, including 89 other regional locations.
“We know that there has been a rise in mental ill-health among young people.
“That’s why we’re expanding the headspace network so every young person can access the mental health care they need, close to home.”
WA Primary Health Alliance Executive General Manager Commissioned Services, Mark Cockayne, said headspace plays an important role in equipping young people with the skills they need to manage their mental and physical health, supporting them not only now, but into their future.
“WA Primary Health Alliance will be working closely with the local community and other key stakeholders to ensure the service will meet their needs and is well integrated with other services within the community.”
headspace CEO, Jason Trethowan, said never has it been more important that young people have access to timely and youth friendly mental health support, when and where they need it.
“Combined with headspace’s growing suite of digital services, such as eheadspace, this new location will make it easier for young people in and around Manjimup to get the help they need.”
